Newport Agrees to Buy Burleigh Instruments: Newport Corp., a Fountain Valley manufacturer of precision laser and optics instruments, said Monday that it has agreed in principle to acquire Burleigh Instruments, a Fishers, N.Y., instruments maker.The purchase price was not disclosed. The transaction, expected to be completed by the end of March, is aimed at broadening Newport’s product line and giving it an East Coast manufacturing presence, said Robert C. Hewitt, Newport’s vice president of finance.
