CORONA DEL MAR : Spirit Run Picks Presenting Sponsor

The Spirit Run Committee has named Security Pacific Bank in Costa Mesa as Presenting Sponsor of Spirit Run 1990, Orange County’s largest 5K/10K race.

The Los Angeles-based bank donated $10,000 to help finance the annual race to be held at Fashion Island in Newport Beach on Feb. 25, at 7:30 a.m.

“This originated as a community run, and we try to maintain the small community feeling, despite the numbers that turn out,” said race spokeswoman Karen Wilson. “We get a large elementary school population plus entire generations of families that race.”

The run, which is expected to draw 10,000 participants and spectators, supports supplemental education programs at Roy O. Anderson and Harbor View elementary schools in Corona del Mar. Last year, $40,000 was raised for the enrichment programs, Wilson said.

Volunteers work year-round to organize the full day of festivities including presentations to all children completing the course.
