WORLD IN BRIEF : MIDEAST : Baker Irked by Slow Pace of Negotiations

Secretary of State James A. Baker III, expressing impatience, told Arabs and Israelis that other areas of the world are “clamoring” for his attention while the two camps hesitate on opening Mideast peace talks. Baker’s statement appeared to be a veiled warning to the two sides to come to terms on holding talks in Washington or risk losing U.S. help in mediating their dispute.
