NATION : Emergency Landing in Capital
An Eastern Airlines plane flying from Philadelphia to Miami made an emergency landing at Washington National Airport today after experiencing what appeared to be a fuel leak, officials said. There were no injuries.
An Eastern Airlines spokesman said the pilot of the DC-9, which was carrying 36 passengers and a crew of five, declared an emergency and landed at National at 10:43 a.m. “It was classified as an emergency, but the landing itself was routine,” he said.
The passengers on the aircraft were flown to Miami on another Eastern flight. The incident is being investigated, he said.
