Fixed-Rate Mortgages Drop Slightly: Fixed-rate home mortgages are averaging 9.80%, according to a national survey by the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. That rate was down from a rate of 9.83% last week. On one-year adjustable rate mortgages, lenders were asking an average initial rate of 8.41% this week.
