NAMES IN THE NEWS : Model Tristan Bates, 19, Dies
Tristan Bates, 19-year-old son of British actor Alan Bates, has died of a stroke.
His death in Tokyo was confirmed today by a modeling agency. He was in the city for his work as a fashion model when he died Friday night near his apartment, according to Gloria Askew, president of the Askew agency.
The young model appeared with his twin brother, Benjamin, on a front cover of the October issue of monthly Popeye magazine. He was planning to go to a drama school after working in Tokyo.
His 65-year-old father is a leading British stage, screen and television actor. He is in Tokyo with his wife, Victoria Ward.
His movie credits include “A Kind of Loving” in 1962, “Far From the Madding Crowd” in 1967, “Women in Love” in 1969 and “A Voyage Round My Father” in 1983.
Details about the funeral were not immediately available.
