Advanced Micro Devices: The Sunnyvale, Calif., integrated circuit maker said net income in fiscal 1989 totaled $46 million, more than double the $19 million of fiscal 1988. Sales were down 1.9% to $1.1 billion. The fiscal 1988 results included an unusual charge of $17.3 million associated with a work force reduction, closure of a manufacturing plant and other restructuring actions. The company said the increased earnings were due in part to driving unit costs down and an increase in international sales.
