Woman’s Translation Gets Boyfriend Killed
An Italian tourist was shot to death at a restaurant after his Brazilian girlfriend enraged a man at the next table by translating the argument the man was having with a woman, police said Tuesday.
Marco Dell’Aquila, 22, was at a Copacabana restaurant Sunday night with Renata Modesto, 18. The two were distracted by a loud argument between a man and woman at the table beside them, and Modesto began translating it to Dell’Aquila.
Her eavesdropping infuriated the man at the table, who began insulting her. Dell’Aquila intervened and was shot in the neck by the stranger, who escaped with his companion, police said.
He died Monday evening at a city hospital.
