Monrovia : Farmers’ Market Possible

Share

The city may soon have a farmers’ market, if downtown merchants agree to support the market financially.

The City Council on Tuesday approved the concept of a market upon the recommendation of the Planning Commission and the Community Services Commission. A possible site might be the north side of Lime Avenue, west of Myrtle Avenue.

The city will seek sponsors among members of the Downtown Monrovia Merchants Assn. to come up with the nearly $12,700 needed to cover publicity, insurance, licensing and management expenses for the first year.

Mayor Pro Tem Mary Wilcox said the market could begin as early as March 1, in time for strawberry season.
