Norway Thieves Crash Truck Through Window, Carry Off Automatic Teller
Thieves crashed a truck through a plate glass window and made off with an automatic teller machine that was worth more than the loot it contained, officials said.
The robbers hoisted the free-standing 1,400-pound bank machine, containing $16,200, onto a stolen truck Wednesday, said Eidsberg Deputy Sheriff Henning Tolefsrud.
The machine itself was worth about $27,700, according to the Eidsberg Savings Bank.
The robbers may have been inspired by a TV movie. They backed their truck into a department store window, a tactic shown on Norwegian television Saturday in the Australian crime film “The Great Bookie Robbery.”
In the film, armed robbers backed a truck through a betting club’s windows and stole cash.
