Oprah Winfrey starts production in March on her new series, “Brewster Place.” The half-hour drama for ABC, based on the movie about black women in a ghetto, will be filmed at Winfrey’s new studio in Chicago, where she also produces her daily talk show.

Shooting has begun on “Voyage to 1939 Aboard the Queen Mary: A Celebrity Celebration,” a TV special hosted by comedian Wil Shriner that will be syndicated nationally in March. The hour production takes the audience back to the innocence of America in 1939 through music and entertainment.

Independent producer Joan Owens has been named the producer of “Quest for Education,” an hourlong PBS program comparing education in Japan and America, to be produced by KCET. The show will focus on the day-to-day personal experiences of two students--one Japanese and one American--and their families, peers, friends and school administrators.

Horror hero Freddy Krueger--alias actor Robert Englund--will host the “Horror Hall of Fame,” honoring the genre’s top film makers and special-effects artists. The two-hour special is being offered for sale to syndicated stations to air in October.
