Alta Lays Off 50 at Calabasas Subsidiary

Alta Health Strategies of Salt Lake City said it laid off about 50 workers at its Calabasas subsidiary, U.S. Administrators. Alta, which helps run health insurance programs for companies that self-insure, will continue running the office with some of the remaining 100 employees and reassign the rest to other offices, according to Geoff Wood, executive vice president and chief administrator. Alta, which has five offices in Southern California, laid off the workers because it lost “two or three major accounts,” Wood said.
