P.M. BRIEFING : Bid for Great Northern Extended

Georgia-Pacific Corp. said today that it has extended until Feb. 5 its $63-a-share cash offer in a $4.5-billion merger bid for rival timber products giant Great Northern Nekoosa Corp. of Norwalk, Conn.

The offer had been scheduled to expire Monday.
