Deukmejian Picks Judge for L.A. Superior Court
Personal injury lawyer Victor E. Chavez, 59, has been appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court bench by Gov. George Deukmejian.
Chavez, who takes the bench Monday, was the first Mexican-American to serve on the Committee of Bar Examiners, which supervises the California State Bar exam. Chavez, who replaces retired Judge Carlos E. Velarde, received his bachelor’s and law degrees from Loyola University in Los Angeles.
One of his 10 children and step-children, Victoria, was appointed by the governor last year to the Los Angeles Municipal Court.
