NATION IN BRIEF : MASSACHUSETTS : New Rules Adopted to Certify Teachers

The Massachusetts Board of Education approved rules that will do away with undergraduate education majors and instead require prospective teachers to focus on subjects such as history, English and chemistry. The action, which also will require a master’s degree for teacher certification, reflects a national trend in which school systems are looking for instructors who know more about the subject they are teaching.
