The United States will close two of its four major military installations in Greece, political party leaders said today.

The disclosure came after leaders of the three parties that support the coalition government met with Premier Xenophon Zolotas.

Constantine Mitsotakis, leader of the conservative New Democracy grouping, confirmed a report by Athens newspaper Ethnos that U.S. Envoy to Athens Michael Sotirhos advised the Greeks on Thursday of the U.S. decision to shut the bases.

The bases to be closed, the politicians said, are Hellinikon Air Base, which is next to Athens International Airport, and the U.S. Navy communications station at Nea Makri, 20 miles southeast of the capital.
