NICOSIA, Cyprus — Security guards on a domestic Iran Air flight foiled a hijacking and killed all four hijackers in a shootout, IRNA news agency reported today.
The agency, quoting a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, said four “armed terrorists” tried to hijack the Boeing 727 Thursday night on a flight between the southern cities of Shiraz and Bandar Abbas.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guards, the internal security force, said all four hijackers were killed in a shoot-out with agents who were on the plane.
The hijackers had taken a crew member hostage to force the pilot to fly to an unspecified destination. None of the passengers was wounded, and the plane returned to Shiraz after the attempt, IRNA said.
