Lack of Vision
It is only mildly reassuring that even George Will is appalled at the emptiness of purpose and lack of vision of the Bush-Quayle Administration (“The Man and the Moment Have Met,” Op-Ed Page, Jan. 21). The present picture of a failing and flailing once-great nation is hurtful to behold. We have no business telling any country what to do until we set our own increasingly shaky house in order.
This means rebuilding our decaying and polluted cities and roads; admitting we have lost generations of youth through a failed educational system; and simply doing away with the inane point of view of far too many that we are better than everybody else. It also means rekindling a spirit of love and compassion that, as recently as the end of World War II, made us the most admired and respected nation in the world.
