Poll Explains Anarchy on Italian Highways

ROME —
Foreign visitors who have been frightened by some anarchic drivers on Italy’s highways can take heart. Italians are now admitting that it is a problem.
A poll of 90,000 drivers by Italy’s automobile association and published in newspapers showed that although they are a minority, many Italians were ignorant of basic rules of the road.
More than 800 believed they could back up on a freeway if they missed an exit.
