NATION IN BRIEF : GUAM : Ex-Guam Governor Kills Self in Capital

Ricardo (Ricky) Bordallo, former governor of Guam, died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds while draped in a Guam national flag and chained to a statue in a busy public intersection of Agana. Bordallo, 63, was to report to the federal correctional facility in Boron, Calif., on Friday, to begin serving a four-year prison term on witness tampering and obstruction charges. Bordallo had served as governor of the U.S. territory from 1976-80 and was reelected in 1984.
