Rothenberg Case

Share

Two issues seem to stand out in Charles Rothenberg’s parole (Part A, Jan. 25).

The first is, regardless of the legal right to parole, there comes a point at which a heinous crime and the victim’s situation must be considered. The son, David, now faces a whole life of coming to terms with this tragedy. The moral and emotional issues of his future coupled with his father’s parole are an outrage.

The second issue is cost. The life of Charles Rothenberg on parole is little better than his life in prison. If he needs the extensive, round-the-clock monitoring that the Parole Department believes he needs, we have state prisons already in place. Why should taxpayers have to foot the bill? And how much will the state end up paying before it’s decided that this man would be better off serving his parole in a trailer at a state prison site?

I am filled with outrage at this crime a father committed against a son to “teach the wife a lesson.” That outrage is matched only by this man being out on parole.
