From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The chief of police in Washington, D.C., announced a major reorganization of the department that he says will allow officials to go after high-level drug traffickers and career criminals and help solve crimes more quickly. Isaac Fulwood Jr. said he is consolidating all of the department’s investigative units--including homicide, narcotics, robbery and sex offenses--into one agency. Although at least 60% of the city’s staggering number of murders are believed linked to drugs, the homicide and narcotics units have reported to different divisions. Fulwood said the consolidation will improve the flow of information.
