PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Brea-Olinda Avenges Loss to Valencia With 6-2 Victory

Jason Ochs scored two goals and assisted on three others to lead Brea-Olinda High School to a 6-2 victory over Valencia in an Orange League soccer match Wednesday at Brea.

Valencia (5-2 in league) had defeated Brea (10-7-2, 5-1-1), 4-1, in the first league meeting between the teams.

“I was a bit surprised to be up 4-0 in the first half, but our players were hungry,” Brea Coach Manny Toledo said.

Kevin Ferrier and Jeff Ortiz each scored two goals and goalkeeper Jeff Bettencourt had eight saves for the Wildcats.

Peter Yanan and Joe Flammini each scored for Valencia.

In the Century League:

Santa Ana 4, Santa Ana Valley 0--Gus Plasencia scored three goals to lead visiting Santa Ana. Jose Luis Ramirez also scored and Armando Guillen had five saves for Santa Ana (13-2-6, 5-0-2).

Foothill 2, El Modena 0--Lance Anderson had eight saves in his 10th shutout of the season as Foothill (16-2-5, 3-0-4) won its first match after four consecutive ties. John Jacobs and Jeff Fischbeck scored in the first half for the Knights. David Lough had 12 saves for El Modena.

Canyon 2, Villa Park 0--Randy Campbell scored a goal in each half for visiting Canyon (9-7-4, 2-2-3). Goalkeeper Chris Snitko had six saves in his sixth shutout of the season.

In the Empire League:

Katella 4, Loara 1--Armando Orizaba scored three goals in the second half to break a 1-1 tie at Katella. Jose Figuera also scored for Katella (11-6-4, 2-3-2). Ryan Heise scored on a penalty kick in first half for Loara (1-19, 0-7)

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Hills 5, Costa Mesa 0--Juan Strutton scored two goals for host Laguna Hills (17-4, 10-2). Eric Davis, Scott Clark and Jeff Cook also scored for Laguna Hills. Kirk Brown had six saves in his fifth shutout of the season. Costa Mesa is 1-15, 0-12.

Orange 2, Woodbridge 0--Ricky Heimer and Justin Zayas scored for visiting Orange (14-0-3, 11-0-1), the No. 1-ranked team in Orange County. Woodbridge is 7-8-2, 4-7-1. It was Orange’s 11th shutout and goalie Tres Martin’s eighth shutout.

Trabuco Hills 1, Laguna Beach 0--Steve Kalajian scored with 15 minutes remaining for visiting Trabuco Hills (8-7-2, 6-4-2).

In the Sea View League:

University 1, Estancia 1--Jose Medrano put host Estancia ahead, 1-0, five minutes before the half, and David Jacobson tied it with about 15 minutes left for University (8-6-3, 2-3-2). Estancia is 7-8-2, 4-2-1.

Saddleback 1, Corona del Mar 0--Hernan De Santos scored in the first half for Saddleback (11-4-2, 4-2-1) at Corona del Mar. Goalkeeper Adrian Sevilla had seven saves in his sixth shutout.

Newport Harbor 1, Tustin 1--David Pattison scored six minutes into the first half for host Newport Harbor (16-3-4, 4-0-3). Andy Bermudez scored midway through the second half for Tustin, which fell to 0-5-2 in league play.

In the Sunset League:

Ocean View 3, Westminster 0--Andrew Wind had two goals and Greg Biggins had one for host Ocean View (12-4-4, 4-1-2).

Marina 1, Huntington Beach 0--At Huntington Beach, Ricky Rodriguez scored the only goal of the game one minute before halftime. Marina is 15-6-0, 6-1; Huntington Beach is 8-10-3, 0-4-3.
