From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The Voice of America will eliminate broadcasting service in six of its 43 languages this year and cut 57 jobs because of budget problems, Director Richard W. Carlson said. Service will cease April 1 in Greek, Turkish, Laotian and Slovene, the language of the Slovenian republic of Yugoslavia. On June 1, it will end in Uzbek--the language of the Soviet Republic of Uzbekistan and other Asian areas--and Swahili, the language of several East African nations.
