Prominent local businessman Ed Conway has been named chairman of the Orange County Harbors, Beaches and Parks Commission.

Conway was elected chairman last week by the seven-member commission, which oversees a $12-million budget for the county’s 12 regional parks, three harbors, and a large network of beaches and community parks.

Conway said he is looking forward to handling a busy agenda and “helping the process flow smoothly.”

“We’ve got a lot of interesting projects coming up the next year and I’m happy to have the opportunity to chair this commission,” he said.

The new chairman is a four-year veteran of the commission. He was appointed to the county group by Orange County Supervisor Thomas F. Riley. Conway served as vice president of the commission in 1989.

A 13-year resident of Dana Point, Conway has served the city in several capacities, including his appointment to the year-old city’s first Economic Development Commission.

He has been heavily involved in other community organizations, including the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce, of which he was elected president in 1986.
