Actor Tom Hanks will play Sherman McCoy in the movie adaptation of Tom Wolfe's novel "Bonfire of the Vanities," a satirical look at New York's social hierarchy at the end of the 20th Century.
The industry newspaper Daily Variety said today that Elizabeth Perkins was negotiating to play the part of Hanks' wife, Judy. The pairing would be their first since "Big."
The movie begins filming April 17 with five weeks of location shooting in New York City, followed by two weeks in Los Angeles and six weeks on a sound stage at The Burbank Studios.
The movie is set for Christmas release.
