N.Y. Dealer Buys Weisman Collection: New York art dealer Larry Gagosian has purchased the private art collection of Richard Weisman, the son of Los Angeles collectors Frederick R. Weisman and Marcia Weisman. The collection of about 50 Abstract Expressionist and Pop works reportedly sold for about $40 million, but Gagosian declined to comment on the price or value of the art. Richard Weisman, who has recently moved to Seattle, could not be reached for comment. “It’s a great, great collection” that includes prime examples of work by Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Barnett Newman, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, Gagosian said. Some of the works were shown in Los Angeles in 1983 with the Weisman collection in “The First Show,” which inaugurated the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Temporary Contemporary facility.
