SHORT TAKES : ‘4th’ Gets Applause, Jason Boos

The National Coalition on Television Violence, which computes the violence and assesses the pro and antisocial thematic content in movies and TV shows, has picked its best and worst movies for 1989.

“Romero,” “Born on the Fourth of July” and “Dad” were rated the most pro-social pictures. Tom Cruise and Sally Field were cited for their work in “Born on the Fourth of July” and “Steel Magnolias,” respectively.

The “most violent (and) socially destructive” films of 1989 were “Bloodfist,” “Tango & Cash” and “Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan.”
