WORLD IN BRIEF : LEBANON : Aoun’s Troops Win Battle for Key Base

Maj. Gen. Michel Aoun’s soldiers won a costly battle against a rival militia near Beirut in an intra-Christian war that has cost hundreds of lives over eight days. Police said 38 people were killed and 111 wounded during a six-hour onslaught in which Aoun’s troops seized a major base in Dbaiye from the Lebanese Forces. This raised the toll to 315 killed and 1,148 wounded in the fighting.
