Long Beach : Council Studies Legal Steps to Deter Medfly Spraying

Share

Although Long Beach has been largely spared from aerial spraying to fight the recent Medfly infestation in Los Angeles County, the City Council has asked the city attorney’s office to investigate possible legal action to keep Long Beach off limits to malathion spraying.

The issue was raised by Councilman Les Robbins, whose office has received about 100 calls from residents concerned about spraying in the Lakewood Village area, according to one of Robbins’ aides.

The council will consider the issue Feb. 20 when it will ask state and county agricultural representatives as well as opponents of the malathion spraying to discuss the pesticide use. The city attorney also will report on possible courses of legal action.
