A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy and a 7-year-old girl remained hospitalized today from injuries suffered when a van and a patrol car responding to a burglary without sirens or flashing lights collided at a Lancaster intersection, deputies said.

Jessica Garcia of Lancaster, a passenger in the van, was in fair condition today at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center, where she was being treated for a head injury, hospital spokeswoman Frankie Richards said. Deputy Jeffrey Biehl, 30, was in fair condition and undergoing treatment for broken ribs, the spokeswoman said.

Sgt. Ron Shreves said Biehl and Deputy Johnie Jones, 29, were northbound on 20th Street East at 6:50 p.m. when the van, driven by Kelly Garcia, 25, of Lancaster turned in front of the patrol car at Avenue J-8. Shreves said the deputies were responding to a call concerning a home burglary in progress and were traveling 50 to 55 m.p.h.
