Academy Award-winning actor Anthony Quinn underwent three hours of heart bypass surgery without complication Thursday and could be out of the hospital in a week, his spokeswoman said.

Quinn’s doctor said the 74-year-old actor “has a strong heart and is in good health” and should have an uneventful recovery, said spokeswoman Katherine Benvin.

Quinn entered New York’s Mt. Sinai Hospital on Wednesday night after suffering chest pains for three months. He is expected to have “no trouble continuing all aspects of his career,” Benvin said

A Los Angeles spokesman, Mickey Freeman, said that after Quinn’s first bout of chest pains the actor underwent a number of tests, which all proved negative.

“Anthony knew he was sick, he had these pains and he wasn’t feeling well, so he just kept going back and back for more tests until somebody found he had a heart problem and bypass surgery was needed,” Freeman said.
