A man was shot to death Saturday night by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies after they were summoned to a quiet residential neighborhood in Lynwood to break up a dispute between two men, investigators said.
Details were sketchy. The shooting occurred at 7:18 p.m. in the 3500 block of Brenton Avenue. Neighbors reported hearing at least four shots. One woman said the unidentified dead man apparently was shot in a scuffle with deputies after refusing orders to lie on the ground.
The Sheriff’s Department has been criticized by blacks after the shooting death by a deputy of a Nation of Islam member who allegedly had taken the deputy’s gun. The victim Saturday night was described by witnesses only as a middle-aged white male.
