From Times staff and Wire reports

Gunfire forced a British army helicopter down near the border with the Irish Republic, police said, and an anonymous caller claimed that the Irish Republican Army shot it down. Three soldiers were taken to a hospital with injuries suffered in the forced landing in County Tyrone, a police spokesman said. None were thought to be seriously hurt. There was gunfire, but it was not known whether any shots hit the helicopter, which had been on a reconnaissance flight, the police spokesman said.
