Italy’s Lamberti Sets Best in 200 Freestyle

Giorgio Lamberti of Italy lowered his own short-course world best in the 200-meter freestyle Sunday with a time of 1 minute 43.64 seconds at an international swim meet in Bonn.
Lamberti set the previous best short-course (25-meter pool) record of 1:43.95 in the same pool in 1988.
He set an official long-course 200-meter world mark of 1:46.69 during the European Championships in Bonn last August 15.
Soviet swimmer Dimitri Volkov beat his short-course world best in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 59.30. His previous record had been 59.42.
