DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Driver Julius (Slick) Johnson remains in extremely critical condition today with head injuries from a crash during Sunday’s Daytona ARCA 200 late model stock car race.
Mike Staley, 35, a track safety worker, was also injured in a related incident at Daytona International Speedway and was listed in serious but stable condition with a broken and burned left forearm.
Johnson, 41, was placed on a respirator Sunday night and is being given medication to maintain his blood pressure. A hospital spokesman said the attending medical personnel planned further brain scans today.
