Legal Aid Group Loses Bid to Halt Medfly Spraying

Share

An Orange County legal aid group acting on behalf of that county’s homeless residents lost a bid Tuesday to halt the spraying of malathion over unprotected street people in the county.

The Legal Aid Society of Orange County had filed suit in federal court in Santa Ana seeking a temporary restraining order to halt the spraying of the pesticide in the battle against the Mediterranean fruit fly. The Orange County infestation is an extension of one that began near Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles last summer and has spread through both counties.

In denying the order, U.S. District Judge Alicemarie Stotler said she would hear further arguments in the case in two weeks.
