CYPRESS : 124-Unit Project for Seniors OKd

Share

The city has approved replacing 21 low- to moderate-income housing units in the Civic Center area with a 124-unit senior citizen housing project.

The 21 units, which will be demolished, are within the amended Civic Center Redevelopment Project Area at the northwest corner of Walker Street and Orange Avenue. Residents were relocated from the site last year.

The senior housing project is proposed for a property known as the Cypress Elementary School site on Grindlay Street near Lincoln Avenue. The school site is occupied by two senior citizen centers.

The city is planning to build 124 senior housing units, but may revise the project depending on the size of the units and the amenities that will be included, said Cypress Planning Director Christine Eynon.

A developer for the replacement housing project will be selected this year, and construction is expected to start in early 1992. The project will take about a year to build.
