Hyundai Motor America said today it is recalling about 43,590 of its Sonata cars from the 1989 and 1990 model years to fix a hood latch and coolant hose clamp.

The U.S. marketer for the South Korean car maker, headquartered in Fountain Valley, Calif., said a lever on the secondary hood latch on some of the Sonatas could stick, possibly causing the hood to open while the car is moving if it is not completely closed.

Hyundai will also check cars to make sure a clamp on the coolant bypass hose is not rubbing against a fuel supply hose.

Not all cars will need both repairs, Hyundai said, adding it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to either problem.

Owners will be notified by mail within two weeks to take their cars to authorized Hyundai dealers for the free repairs.
