World IN BRIEF : ARGENTINA : Strike Threatened as Bank Sit-In Ends
Several hundred employees at the National Mortgage Bank ended a two-day sit-in to protest plans to close branches and cut jobs, but Argentine workers threatened a strike involving all five national banks. A top officer of the employees’ Bankworkers Assn. said in Buenos Aires that union members would strike all five national banks Monday. Teachers demanding pay hikes threatened to boycott the start of classes March 5, and striking clerks who shut down federal courts one day last week pledged to do so again this coming week.
