Senate Passes Gun Control Bill

You have no doubt set some kind of record on your editorial page by contributing to the destruction of the meaning of both the First and Second Amendments to the United States Constitution (Feb. 9).

By failing to condemn CBS’ suspension of Andy Rooney for expressing his personal views, you have demonstrated that you don’t believe in free speech at all--only speech that conforms to your political and social ideas.

As to your delight in the passage in the state Senate of a law requiring a 15-day waiting period for the purchase of rifles and shotguns, I can only say that the passage of ever more restrictive gun laws makes the Second Amendment more vital today than ever. The day is not far off when the people will be completely disarmed and at the mercy of our oligarchic government. The Times will then be able to take some credit for the tyranny that follows.
