NATION IN BRIEF : PENNSYLVANIA : Lung Device Fails to Keep Woman Alive

A woman died 18 hours after doctors at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa., tried to save her life by using an experimental, temporary lung-assist device. The woman, identified only as a 34-year-old Philadelphian, was the second recipient of the Intravascular Oxygenator, known as IVOX. A Texas girl, 16, received the first IVOX at a Salt Lake City hospital on Feb. 2. She also died.
