WORLD IN BRIEF : TAIWAN : Lawmakers Protest Aged Party Leaders

Screaming opposition lawmakers shoved officials and smashed doors to protest the aging politicians of the ruling Nationalist Party, who will dominate Parliament’s vote for Taiwan’s president. Police dragged three opposition assemblymen from the convention hall in Taipei, where the National Assembly convened for the election. The protesters oppose the choice of Hsueh Yueh, 94, a retired army general, to preside over the 35-day meeting.
