TUSTIN : Council Votes to Annex 7.8 Acres

Share

Tustin will grow by nearly eight acres as the result of the City Council’s unanimous vote Tuesday to annex a strip of property west of Newport Avenue and north of the city limits.

Although two North Tustin residents spoke in opposition to the annexation, the city received only one written protest from a landowner in the area that was annexed.

The council also voted 3 to 1 to instruct staff to initiate zoning consistent with the area.

The City Council initiated the annexation of the 7.8 acres in response to a request from area property owners in September. The county Local Agency Formation Commission approved the annexation in November. The approval was appealed by the Foothill Community Assn., a homeowners group in North Tustin, but the county agency upheld its decision in January.

If the council does not receive written protests from property owners amounting to more than 50% of the area’s assessed property value, Tuesday’s annexation will become final.
