Jockey Steve Cauthen, who rode Triple Crown winner Affirmed in 1978 and then suffered through a 110-race losing streak before building a career in Europe, said today he doesn’t foresee ever returning to riding full time in the United States.

Despite his Kentucky background, English racing practices are more in tune with his temperament. “Horses are given a lot more time to develop,” Cauthen said. “Here, people get greedy and ruin them by trying to get them together too soon.”
