Election in Nicaragua
Violeta Barrios de Chamorro’s UNO campaign adviser Alfredo Cesar may have been double-speaking when he said, “To convince the people to vote for Violeta and not for Daniel Ortega, we had to convince them that their vote is secret” (Part A, Feb. 19).
This does not jibe with reports from Nicaragua’s hinterlands that pro-UNO forces are trying to convince the people that their votes will be known to them through “UNO’s highly sophisticated computer system” and that they will be subject to retaliation if they vote for the Sandinistas on Sunday.
