Plan to Secede From School District Advances

Share

A group of residents living in the Eastview section of Rancho Palos Verdes have taken a step forward in their drive to secede from the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The residents filed an application with the county Committee on School District Organization so they can begin collecting signatures. However, before any signatures can be solicited, the committee, the county Office of Education and the county engineer must approve a map delineating the proposed secession area.

Rancho Palos Verdes annexed the Eastview area in 1983, but students have remained in the Los Angeles district. The residents want their children to be in the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. They now attend Crestwood Elementary School and Dodson Junior High School in Rancho Palos Verdes and San Pedro High School.

Signatures must be collected from 25% of the registered voters within the proposed secession area.
