From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Thirty toll-takers at New York City’s Triborough Bridge have been hit with a mysterious illness during the past week, prompting authorities to study everything from the air they breathe to the coffee they drink. Workers have complained of sore throats, headaches, dizziness, vomiting, watery eyes and fainting. One worker required mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Carbon monoxide poisoning has been ruled out and tests showed that tap and bottled water were not the problem. The bridge is used by 160,000 vehicles a day.
