NATION IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Ex-Head of Wedtech Gets 5-Month Term

The ex-president of Wedtech Corp., who testified in the corruption trial of former Rep. Mario Biaggi (D-N.Y.), was sentenced to five months in prison for his role in the scandal. Anthony Guariglia, 39, was one of four officials of the South Bronx military contractor who pleaded guilty in 1987 to bribe-related charges and cooperated with prosecutors. Guariglia testified at the racketeering trials of Biaggi and E. Robert Wallach, the San Francisco attorney who was a friend of ex-U.S. Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III. Biaggi and Wallach were convicted of receiving illegal payments from Wedtech officials.
