An elderly Santa Clarita woman missing for a day and a half was located Friday in Vernon--a city about 35 miles away, where relatives said she had lived decades ago.

Portia Roberta Oleson, 82, was identified by Vernon police after she lost control of her four-door Isuzu sedan and crashed into a large aluminum storage structure.

The car, which was partially concealed, was reported to authorities by a passer-by, but Vernon police said they do not know when the crash occurred or how long Oleson had been in the car.

Police said she was conscious but confused when they arrived at the crash scene.

Oleson’s son, Roger Oleson, said he does not know why his mother headed to the city southeast of Los Angeles after leaving the United Methodist Church of Valencia on Wednesday evening.

“She had no known reason for going there,” Roger Oleson said. “She may have been headed for someplace she had in mind. We used to live in that neck of the woods.”

The elderly woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to White Memorial Hospital in Vernon for observation.
